I've read a lot of the previous post yet can't find the problem I currently have perhaps it's a new one to add to all the other's. When driving usually just after starting out the heap losses power chuffs out black smoke only if your truing to move. If you pull over and put your foot to the floor it still won't rev yet there isn't so much smoke. I've noticed if I over accelerate when first starting out it doesn't seem to happen as much. It can go miles no problems then the next day play up all the time. Most of the other posts say theirs is using oil whereas mine is note using any. Warning lights of water in fuel filter and also fuel injection system fault comes up. That's if the dashboard is actually working at that point. If anyone has any ideas would be grateful.

Is the engine you are referring to a 2.2DCi? How many miles do you believe it has done and when was it last serviced? When was the fuel filter changed and has the EGR valve been cleaned in the last year? Both problems are likely to be related to them.

Yes it is the 2.2 dci. It had all the injector seals replaced last month as well as new timing belt and full service. I was hoping that would have sorted it but it never. The egr valve has not been cleaned. Cant say what mileage its done exactly as it has the other great fault of mileage being added whilst dash is playing up. Approx about 100k I would say. I've seen you can buy blanking plates for the egr is it worth doing that to stop problems in the future. The only reason I wasn't thinking egr valve was it's not using any oil.

"When was the fuel filter changed " - I await your response on this. There is no need to blank off the EGR valve, which is unlikely to be faulty, as it will operate as it should if it is cleaned periodically - say once a year, depending on use, of course. The operation of the EGR valve is unconnected to oil consumption.

I would have thought the fuel filter was done with the service last month. Will check egr valve I don't know a lot about them as never had trouble with them before. Thanks for the help

The fuel filter is only changed periodically and you need to know when this was. You cannot assume it was done with the last service.

I noticed on Friday car was sluggish so I changed fuel filter and cleaned the egr valve new air filter. Now it's sluggish on pull away tick over uneven. Went out and started it this morning started ok tick over iratic then the same problems again as in original post any one with any other ideas.

Did you have your original problems before the timing belt was changed?

Renault espace 2.2 - Engine problems - littleolliez

Yes it started playing up before the injector seals went. Once the engine is warm it drives well but first start of the day ticks over iratic doesn't over rev just drops a bit doesn't cut out. This morning started it left it running for 15 mins when I went back out running fine. The warning lights haven't come back on since yesterday morning and we've done over 150 miles.

Also noticed when turning the engine of it jolts quite badly. When the injector seals went oil got onto the timing belt and it jumped a couple of teeth all was checked and was fine. I think the lights came on that's why I checked things out then found the top of the engine covered in oil. Could the timing have jumped again I wonder.

Had the belt "jumped a couple of teeth" the problems with starting and running would be noticeable. One tooth out would also make a noticeable difference. I asked my last question because I suspect that the timing is not set up correctly now. However, it is difficult for me to tell for sure from your description, without seeing/listening to the engine starting and running. Another point to consider is whether any of the vacuum hoses that operates the turbo/engine management system has either not been put back (correctly) or has a crack/leak somewhere.
