Hyundai i20 5 dr - replacement parts under warrantee? - Ellie C

The drive shaft seal and clutch plates were replaced on the last day of the 5 year warantee.

In less than 18 months the seal is leaking again. The original warantee has expired and the garage is quoting in the region of £600 to replace the seals and the clutch plates if contaminated. Hyundai are saying the components that were replaced cease to be covered after the 5 year warantee!

The car has only been driven by a pensioner and done less that 3000 miles since the repair.

Surely the repair should have a warantee of it's own?

What redress do I have with either the garage or Hyundai? At present neither party are willing to help.

Yes, the repair should be warranted for 12 months normally, or to the end of normal warranty if longer.

I don't see you have any redress - you got an effective 6-year warranty - the original 5 years plus a further year from the repair.

It's not the answer you want, sorry.

Warranty work is garanteed for a maximum to the end of the original warranty, that is normal for all makes.

If you got 12 months warranty on work carried out with one day of the original warranty remaining it would be basically like getting a free extension to your original warranty and that is not going to happen.

You got one free repair so why moan.

It does seem bad, but you only get a 12 month garanteed repair if you paid for it.

If the original repair only lasted eighteen months, I wouldn't trust it to the same place again. I suggest you find a good indy who can look carefully at the seal and see if it was damaged when fitted, not replaced or some other problem causing it to still leak (if that is the problem).
