have Insurance through Admiral. Windscreen broke but Admiral will only realistically use Autoglass. Complete disaster, after nearly 3 weeks turned up with windscreen for a left hand drive car (fixings for autowiper etc in wrong place) and informed that once they get the correct part the cars VIN plate will be covered by windscreen surround! Surely if their supplier can't supply within a reasonable time then the option should be available to get work done elsewhere at a cost that is not punitive to the policy holder. 'NO ' says Admiral stick with autoglass or we will pay only £50.00. See below

  • more than £25 for each glass repair or £50 for each glass replacement after we have deducted your excess, if the repair or replacement is not arranged via our glass repair helpline’

There glass helpline is Autoglass!

Both Admiral and Autoglass have not responded to complaint apart 'these are our terms'. Glossed over the fact that Autoglass took excess from my account after online booking AND after they phoned up to say they couldn't do the work as per booking.

Thoughts or just vote with my feet IE change.

What's the situation with current winscreen? Cracked but driveable or car off road. May make a difference asto what's reasonable.

cracked but now across drivers view line so 'advised' not to drive.

Inform Admiral (in writing) that, unless their 'approved supplier' can provide the proper service, of the correct quality, then you will view Admiral as enforcing unfair terms and conditions on their contract, and go elsewhere, but still expect them to pay as they would normally do so. If need be, you will take the matter to the insurance ombudsman or to the small claims court.

In praise of Autoglass - although they do not always get it right first time!

A son needed a rear screen replaced Autoglass made 3 failed attempts - Wrong colour glass (clear from base model instead of tinted on Sport) , Heated rear window connections on wrong side & finally wrong model year.

The good news was they noticed their errors before they took to damaged one out.

I needed a windscreen after a stone chipped & within minutes became a crack. I asked for genuine Mazda Screen not an ownbrand Autoglass special. No problem but they said it would take 2/3 days - fixed in 2 days - well done Autoglass.

We requested an OEM Mercedes screen for my wife's A class. Aviva used Autoglass and it was no problem, we just had to wait a few days, but car was deiveable so not a problem.

I would agree they are being unreasonable and you should push for better service.

I seem to remember other posts regarding problems when claiming from Admiral. Basically it appears they are cheap for a reason. Also, they must spend substantial amounts on peak time TV advertising (as does Hastings Direct), guess who ultimately funds that?
