Hi,
First up, apols if similar has been posted elsewhere.
1998 BMW E39 535i (silver). Was originally father-in-law's car and so 1 owner since new, 100K miles only.
Had been stored for 2 years but 2 months ago I replaced the battery, got an oil change/engine flush, brakes serviced and put her through the MOT. Total cost approx £500 inc parts. As I've spent this on her and the lighter evenings are coming (here's hoping!!) I'm not inclined to sell her at this time - any ads online seem to be <£1K - maybe I could do better? Not sure of the value of such a car with 9 months MOT left.
Radio doesn't work since she was put into storage (previously working perfectly) and now windscreen washer motor has stopped working. Had an independent car electrics guy have a look and he says the radio needs to be replaced (dunno why!) and I need a new washer motor. So no spring evenings cruising along with the radio on then!
Seems a shame to replace the stereo on a lovely walnut dash fascia; if there had been a gradual deterioration I would understand that a replacement might be needed, but the sudden nature of its demise makes me wonder whether a fuse/capacitor or something like that has gone (though presumably the electrics guy would have detected that?)
Anyway, the question is - can the radio be sent off for a 2nd opinion, and if not, what are my options?
Also, what is the best option for a washer motor pump? Any ideas of the best stockists for such a part?
Here comes the most stupid question of all: there is a BMW Motorsport 'M' symbol on the steering wheel of the car, which makes me wonder if she can be described as an 'M 535i'? Or just a plain vanilla 535i? (if so, what is the significance of the 'M' symbol?)
Phew, thanks for bearing with my stupid questions. Grateful for any suggestions or answers anyone has, and I'm happy to send in some photos for clarification of anything.
Thanks
Chris
