Citroen C3 diesel exclusive - warning lights on dashboard - rustlingforest

My C3 is now about 13 years old and has been running well. Now I find that the engine computer warning light comes on intermittently, particularly when cold or driving slowly.

Also, there is a vertical line of orange lights on the left hand side of the display that normally come on one by one until 3 are illuminated as the car warms up. The top light is red and I have never before seen it light. This red light has started to come on without the others when I start the car. It beeps and lights 3 times. This happens every half minute or so until the car warms up.

Are these things very important?

I hesitate to take it to either of the nearest citroen dealers because they always use any excuse to rip me off and sell me things that prove to be unneccessary. (The disadvantage of being a woman with a car and presumed to have no common sense).

Any Advice??

That sounds like a coolant / temperature warning light. Is there coolant in the bottle under the bonnet? If not, it needs topping up but you have to use the right coolant, I believe.

If there is coolant, it's probably the coolant temperature sensor failing. Relatively cheap to replace.

There are alternatives to dealers for advice and diagnostics. French Car Forum has a map containing details of Peugeot and Citroen owners around the country who have the Lexia diagnostic equipment and know how to use it.
