N/A - Company Van Stolen - Gsparks

Hey

I was hoping from some advice on the matter below.

I had my company van stolen in Jan 2013, the vehicle was never recovered and we recieved a full payment from insurance company.

Obviously the policy went up from £300 - £1200 on renewal. The new van is owned by the company but I'm down as the main driver as before.

My issue is that I'm thinking of buying a new car however do I say I have any incidents when answering questions relating to theft/accidents etc.

Although the theft wasn't my fault and we got a payout the insurance companies still declare it as a fault.

It's not technically my fault though if I don't own the vehicle? I don't want to lie to them though either as I know they hold a lot of information on file anyway.

Appreciate the help if possible.

Cheers

Greg

Greg - I'll move this to Legal and hope that someone might be able to help you.

I'd be inclined to ring up an insurer or independent broker, and ask this point as a general question (without giving your name).

I'd assume that yes, you need to tell them. My wife had a claim about 15 years ago, and we had to declare it on my insurance too.

However, as Avant says, the only ones who can say for certain are the insurance company. If in doubt, though, you must declare. Never give them a single bit of ammunition to refuse a claim !

I'm not clear whether the van was insured by you or your employer. Either way though I think you will have to disclose. It is very likley that the information will be on the insurers' shared database.

As an example of this I've recently had quotes to renew my own policy. I'd misheard a question about claims and not told them about an incident in December 2014 where I'd acheived 100% recovery. Not only did that come up but so did 'something' in April 2013. Whatever it is there's no record on either my or my partner's policy.

Only thing we could think of was about my daughter, who is named driver for my car,. She's also named on her partner's policy and we think he made have had a claim around that time for damage to his car at his University lodgings.
