hello, looking to do some wheel bearings for the family fleet and need to buy a hydralic press, which tonnage is adequate, 6, 12, 20 or 30 ton? price goes up as tonnage so want tool for the job at the right price. thanks

You don't need much for car wheel bearings, a 6 ton press will be more than needed. It's possible to pull them in or out using a bolt and some suitable sized sockets or bits of plate etc.

You can also use a big bench vise with the right mandrels if it will open far enough. The cheapest 6 tonne press about is this 'un:-

Put the bearings into the freezer over night they should drop into the hubs

Have you looked at "in situ" bearing removal/refitting tools?

I have used a nice Sealey kit. saved a lot of time. Very useful when avoiding seized suspension bolts!

They do front and or rear kits, with various tooling to different models.

@Chris agree totally. Seized suspension bolts can be a nightmare and evan garages end up replacing suspension parts as the bolts simply can't be removed.

A bearing puller (that fits your car) should start at around £60 but well worth the investment if you plan the DIY route.
