My main dealer serviced up to last year Mazda 5 with 55k miles has started using oil at quite a rate recently. I took it to a good independant garage and they reckoned the turbo could be on the way out and is likely the reason of the oil use as there are no other signs of leaks etc.

I was quoted a £1k cost for a replacement turbo plus labour. Has anyone else had any experience of this problem with turbo repairs? Or knowledge of specialists who might do an exchange unit? Or could it potentially be something else? Any experiences or thoughts welcome.
