A colleague had the Vauxhall version. It was truly shocking on mpg, 30 was a figure he dreamed of, despite it being back to the dealer on numerous occasions they couldn't find a problem.

He was almost happy when the electric handbrake failed and the car was written off after rolling down his drive into his house. However a few seconds earlier and it would have killed him. Despite the car having the handbrake applied correctly (it had been parked on a steep drive for many minutes before moving) Vauxhall were in denial there was an inherent problem.

Don't driving instructors teach people to leave cars in gear on steep hills? The Highway Code still recommends this too, doesn't it?

He may have been glad to get rid of the car, but does say it could have killed him, in which case he'd have been up for a Darwin award.

Neighbour has the Vx version - reliable but he bought the wrong car - his words not mine.

He went out to buy a 3/4 yr old petrol auto CRV or Rav4 and bought a diesel Antara as it was "amazingly cheap" with only 12K miles on the clock (12k was dubious) and 23 mth old.

After buying he then discovered the car had not been serviced. The large national chain claimed the Vx warranty was still OK, which it wasn't, and tried to walk away from responsibility for fixing some issues not covered by Vx.

Car has settled down but low MPG. BUT modest T/I values has seen him hold on to it and plans to run it into the ground.

Work colleague has just bought herself another, she does above average miles with 4 to 8 x 50 mile motorway runs a week for her commutes which keeps the exhaust happy enough.

She's no idiot and if it drank fuel would not have replaced with another identical car, however she is a mature lorry driver of competence so will be untilising overrun wherever possible and the brakes as little as possible.
