Firefox and adware - Leif

I am using Firefox 42 on Windows 10, and have problems with an adware virus. When I open a new window, and navigate to a link, clicking in the new window switches to a new tab displaying an advertising site.

As far as I can see the MS Edge browser is okay.

I have run AdwCleaner with no programs running, and rebooted. I have run a MalwareBytes tool. Neither found adware. I have Kaspersky installed and running. And yet the adware is still present. I cannot see in the installed apps list anything iffy. I have installed AdBlock which seems to prevent the ads appearing. BUT surely I should not need AdBlock, and the cause is spyware or a virus? Help! :)

Try SuperAntiSpyware (free) - this sometimes picks up stuff missed by other programs. Also Sophos, though this one tends to be rather slow to scan.

I have no opinion about Kaspersky, but I use Avast, with Ghostery installed on Opera 33 as the browser. I also run Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit and Cryptoprevent, though the latter would not be relevant to your problem.

Thanks FP. I ran SAS. Lots of cookies found, but nothing else.

I have installed ghostery. It worries me when these things get installed, makes me wonder about key readers etc.

The adware highlights certain words in the text and when you run the cursor across an add will pop up. I play a game sight and the adware shows ads all over

1-855-735-4667 pop-up on the browser really creates hindrance in browsing. Users get irritated by seeing non-stop ads and deals. So, immediately remove using this link www.hoeomspywaretereinigendutch.com/

The irony is staggering ...

Leif, firstly i'm as far from a computer whizz as you could imagine, we haven't gone for Windows 10, more than happy with 7 pro and whilst we can still get used refurbed PC so fitted that will do us fine.

However i had a recent attack that shoved lots of adware and spy stuff into the machine, i'd inadvertantly clicked on a PDF file for instructions on a watch of all things i was considering buying and whoa! bombarded at lightning speed.

Anyway, MSE proved to be as much use as a dead fish and let it all in, Malwarebytes scans found them but couldn't shift them, i tried various different recommended malware removal and security installations all to no avail, some worked for a couple of days and then the trash started firing up again, we began to wonder if it was going to mean scrapping the thing.

Eventually i alighted on YAC, Yet Another Cleaner, and sure enough it jolly well worked straight off, takes a bit of getting used to its little quirks, it doesn't like my home page of Duck Duck Go for instance and tells me so regularly but other than that it does all that i ask, its the only security package i'm seriously considering paying for the full version of...which you get 28 days trial of when you download...apparently MWB isn't happy with them cos they are too similar or summat, but where MWB couldn't shift my nasties YAC did and permanently.

If you still have issues it might be worth a go, nothing to lose, it comes straight off if decide you don't like it, unlike Norton which proved to be almost impossible to rid, never again, worse than than trying to leave Sky.

We also run Ghostery and AdBlockPlus on Firefox, no ads get through.

edit, couldn't agree more Rob, irony does not compute it would appear
