Car Hire - Malaga - oldroverboy.

Friend took swmbo for a short break and as he wanted to drive her up the old road which curls around under itself, (i'm sure you know where it is) booked a hire car. Got to the desk late, and no trace of booking, and no one answering on the uk number.

Was offered a car at an extortionate rate, but declined and got the train into malaga.

On calling the uk the next morning, told booking had been confirmed and could not do anything about it.

So asked for and after a bit of waiting to speak to a "supervisor" was given a full refund, but no other explanation.

If he had accepted the higher priced offer the previous evening it would not have been refunded.

I thoughy all this stuff stopped years ago?

If he booked online your friend would have a confirmation e mail and be able to print out the booking reference form. If the booking was made here UK law applies to the conract. However that depends on the hire company. You are safe with Hertz, Sixt etc. However if he hired through a booking website for a car from ' Diegos Autos' then I fear he has little chance of any redress. At least he received a refund, which is something.

Chalk it down to experience and try a better company next time around.

There's a formal complaint procedure I learnt about in Spain: Hojas de Reclamaciones.

It's a form to fill in that all outlets have to supply. I've never used it, although I would have done if I'd known about it at the time, but apparently it can have a magical when asked for.
