My Nissan Micra is making a strange acceleration noise - what is it?

I bought a 2012 Nissan Micra 1.2 petrol manual with 39,500 miles on it. A strange noise, like a constant need to accelerate, is occuring. Is it a CVT?

If it's a manual it doesn't have a CVT, but it does have a clutch and your description suggests it is slipping.
