Should I wait until the number plate change to buy a used car?

I want to change my Jaguar XF before mid-March this year because it will be coming up for it's third MoT and I know it will require some minor work, plus it's due a major service. It's about time I changed my car anyway. I'm still deciding what vehicle to buy, but it will be 12 to 18 months old. Is it best to look now, or wait until the next number plate change on 1 March? The reason I ask is that my road tax is due by the end of this month.

From the second week of March the market will see a wave of mostly three to four-year-old cars coming off fleets or off PCPs. There's no significant increase in cars 12-18 months old that are almost inevitably ex-rental or ex long-term demo, so the prices of these will not drop significantly and may even increase as the spring buying season gathers pace.
