Is there a spacious estate car around for under £3000?

I am looking for something which is able to cope with the odd long trip across Europe, and can fit a lot of stuff in the back (I'm a sculptor - think bulky and messy). I've thought about a 4x4/jeep type thing but am worried about the unreliability - I don't know enough about cars to enjoy tinkering and replacing parts on the side of the motorway. Until recently I had a Ford Escort van which was great, but I'd like to have some passenger seats this time. Can anyone recommend a diesel car under £3000 and where would be a good place to start looking?

Citroen Berlingo Multispace. Try www.cargiant.co.uk or just go to the site and look around for something that catches your eye.
