Which petrol Skoda Octavia model should we go for?
My wife and I drive a 1997 Mercedes-Benz C240 Elegance. We plan to keep the C240 and buy a more modern car with more luggage space for grandchildren. With no VAT, the Skoda Octavia Elegance Estate looks like meeting our requirements. For lower road tax and insurance we would prefer the 1.4TSI 122bhp DSG, but are concerned that this engine may be underpowered and the 1.8TSI 160bhp DSG may be required. As my wife does short journeys a diesel is not an option, and also we do not exceed 10,000 miles a year. We need to be able to cruise at 70mph on UK motorways and at 80mph on French motorways. Your advice on whether the 1.4 TSI DSG will be OK or if we need to go for the 1.8 TSI DSG would be appreciated.

You're probably better with the 1,4TSI 122. The 1.8 160 is a bit juicy. I got less then 30mpg in the Yeti. DSGs aren't brilliant news, by the way.
