Is our BMW 530 DSE suitable for use as our only car, including short shopping trips?
I am considering going from a two-car family to one car as my wife and I seldom use both cars together. Our mileage has dropped substantially from when the cars were bought and we now only do 6000 miles per year in both cars. At present we use the 15-year-old Cavalier (52,000miles) for short runs and the nine-year-old BMW 530 DSE for long runs. If we sold the Cavalier, which is in excellent condition, we would save the road tax, insurance, MOT and servicing costs. However the BMW would then have to be used for short shopping trips as well as longer journeys, so we might end up paying out more in repairs than we save. What do you think?

This age of BMW is okay to use for relatively short runs ad it does not have a diesel particulate filter.
