My Peugeot 306 stalled and now won't start. I have some fault codes - could the problem be the fuel pump?
I was coming up to a roundabout in my 1999 Peugeot 306 LX HDI the other day. I lifted the throttle only for the engine to cut out. There was no prior notice, noises, whines or rattles. After that the car never started again. It sounded to me like fuel starvation, even though the tank was half full. I called the AA and he found a few fault codes: P0230 - Fuel pump primary cutout, P1404 - Engine control module defective, P1517 - Security coded start - coherence and P1138 - Fuel supply pressure regulator.
I was told that it could be an ECU fault and that it may need re-programming or replacing. I've been looking for someone to test or repair, it but am being quoted £200+ and I'm not sure it is that. Could it not be as simple as the fuel pump?

You can go to www.codes.rennacs.com to check out the fault codes yourself, and you can look at www.ECU-testing.com where you get a better understanding of the problem and how to rectify it.
