I've fitted a new turbo to my 2004 Renault Scenic II 1.5 DCi but it's still smoking. Help!

Have had my Renault Scenic II since May this year. It's a 2004 1.5 DCI 80, and had 72,000 miles on it when I bought it and has 74,500 miles on it now. For most of that time, its been throwing white/blue smoke out the back, and using a lot of oil - on average 1-2 litres per week. I bought it privately, so there's no come back to the seller. It would be smoke at start up in the morning, or if the car had been standing for a time. It would also appear when driving, say at 50mph, then giving it a bit more gas, I'd get a plume behind me - quite dense and hanging in the air. However, a decent motorway run at 70mph would produce little or no smoke.

After much searching and checking, the compression seemed ok, though we had carried out an engine flush. But there was oil in the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler, so I was advised that the turbo was on its way out. I bought a replacement turbo, and had it fitted. I've been using it for the last three days since picking it up, and at there is still some slight smoke on pulling away sometimes, but not as dense and doesn't linger/hang in the air as it did. However, I topped the oil up on Friday after getting the car back. I have done two 100-mile round trips and today (three days later) the 'top up engine oil' warning has come back. Can anyone offer any more advice?

Possibly failed valve stem oil seals, then. Turbodiesels burn oil either because the valve stem oil seals have failed or because the turbo oil seal has failed.
