Is a faulty crank sensor making my Volkswagen Polo cut out?
I've had my 1997 Volkswagen Polo for about a month now, and it dies on me at completely random intervals. It can go days without doing it, then do it three times on a short journey, whether I'm accelerating, cruising along at any speed, or just sitting idling at lights it can just cut out. I have had diagnostics run and nothing was found, and my aftermarket alarm has been removed as I thought it could have been an immobiliser problem. The coil pack and plug leads have also been replaced. I have been told it may be the "crank sensor" but I can't get hold of a workshop manual as Haynes don't produce one. Any ideas where the crank sensor is located?

We do not know the exact location of your crank sensor (but they are known to be a problem on lots of makes of cars). You could try www.emanualonline.com to see if they have your manual. Failing that, could you get a local garage to point it out for you? Given the age of the car, the sensor could be the problem, and it is relatively low cost to replace.
