What's better for me - a hybrid or petrol family car?

I'm after a replacement for an ageing Toyota Corolla Verso. It needs to carry two adults plus two children (13 and 11). We cover less than 10k miles per year including a 50 mile per day commute three days a week in stop start traffic, plus odd weekend longer distance journey. I'm considering a Kia Niro, SEAT Ateca 1.0 TSI or a Peugeot 3008. Any other suggestions or your preference? Other alternatives are Yeti or Vitara.

A Niro is not a bad idea. Best as a 2 spec as the high spec is simply not worth the money. It may be hard to get because demand is strong but you can expect about 55mpg. Have a good look at one first and judge if it's spacious enough. The good thing is the twin shaft twin clutch gearbox that makes it better to drive then a Prius in hilly areas. The Yeti is on the way out to be replaced by the Karoq, which is a mixture of Kodiaq and Ateca (they're all built by Skoda). The Vitara S 1.4T Boosterjet is a goer, achieving decent Real MPG despite four wheel drive. You could also consider a Peugeot 2008 1.2 Puretech 130 or a 3008 1.2 Puretech 130. Even look at a Kodiaq, which is a lot of space on wheels for the money.
