Why are there so few petrol automatic MPVs?

I'm a full time mum of two looking for an MPV with a high driving position, the option to convert to seven seats, and crucially an automatic gearbox as I spend time sitting in traffic. I have no need of a huge 4x4 and I only really do short journeys. I find my choice is massively restricted because there are so few petrol automatics available. I've had to discount the Ford Grand C-Max which would have been my first choice and am now looking at a BMW Gran Tourer which is more expensive. Do you know if any manufacturers are planning to add more petrol engines with automatic gearbox options to their MPV range anytime soon?

Manufacturers made the cars that the public wanted and that EC legislation on CO2 forced them to make. It was the only way they could comply with the requirement for ever decreasing levels of CO2 without making electric cars and hybrids that are much more expensive. However, now that they have moved the goalposts, you will start to see more petrol MPVs and maybe even some petrol hybrid MPVs like the Toyota Sienta, Estima and Alphard that aren't currently imported to Europe.
Dear Honest John,
