What do you recommend we replace our Honda Civic with?

We have a 2013 Honda Civic 1.8 EX and like the car, including the heated seats. We would like a car with a higher seating position but the width of the car must not exceed the Civic by more than an inch or so due to the constraints of the drive. We would be looking for a car up to 12 months old (including new price dependant). Our budget is up to £20,000, including the trade in.

I'd be inclined to keep the Civic. It's a pity the Honda HR-V in the UK does not come with the same 1.8iVTEC engine. The new Civic is as big as the Accord was 10 years ago. Maybe your best bet is a Peugeot 2008 1.2 Puretech GT 130 6-speed with Grip Control. That rides well, is fun to drive, is practical, a sensible size, does about 50mpg and has the advantage of Grip Control to get you out of snow and mud. Comes in just under £20,000 before you haggle a discount.
