Which small automatic car offers easy access and comfort?

I have just had a hip replacement and been told that I should drive an automatic car. I drive about 15,000 miles a year, mostly journeys of 20 miles but with two journeys per month of 200 miles each way. I need a small, economical, reliable automatic that will be comfortable for the long haul and with easy access. What would would you recommend? My budget is around £12,000.

Suzuki Swift 1.5 auto. There's a new model on the way which is not a 1.5, so you should get one for about £10,000.
