What's the best method for tracing my car's history

I have just bought a left hand drive car and would like to know which country it was first registered in. It was brought to the UK in 2010, but was registered elsewhere in 2006. How can I trace it's history?

You may be able to persuade the manufacturer to provide the information from the car's VIN, which will be written on the V5C registration document. Probably best done via a dealer in the make of car.
