Bought a pre-reg car, but don't have the logbook
I note in your column in Saturday's Telegraph that you said NOT to buy a car if you did not get the logbook immediately, even if pre-reg. I feel that at 71 yrs old I have been a fool as I have purchased a 66 reg car with a 25 per cent discount and will not get the log book for three months. This was from a main dealer so I thought everything would be above board. What are the reasons for your comments and what implications might this have for me? .

You are not the registered keeper of the car, so if anything happens from a parking ticket to a speeding ticket the NIP will reach the registered keeper, not you, and the delay may mean a penalty on top of the fine. If your insurance disclosures asked if you are the registered keeper and you answered in the affirmative then this is a misdeclaration and may render your insurance invalid.
