Vauxhall Meriva steering pump failure

My Vauxhall Meriva (2010 model) has just suffered a power steering pump motor failure . The vehicle has only covered 21,000 miles and the repairs have come to over £1000. As this appears to be quite a common occurrence with this vehicle is it worth me contacting Vauxhall for any goodwill payment?

It's not a 'pump'. It's an electric motor. It is prone to failure if drivers hold the steering on full lock too often because this burns out the electric motor. Yes, of course. Always worth trying for some goodwill.
