Do turbocharged engines operate properly in first gear?
Turbochargers on engines used not to operate in first gear or below 2000rpm. (diesel) or 3000rpm. (petrol). Is this still the case as I may in the future purchase a small capacity turbo engine ?

Not correct. They are turned by exhaust gases and controlled by wastegates. Depending on how the engine has been calibrated they will spool up to maximum boost at between 1250 and 2000rpm and that is consistent. A useful advantage in winter is that turbos on petrol engines are watercooled, so coolant passing through the turbo heats the engine (and the cabin of the car) faster than a non turbo engine.
