Does my Ford Focus' dual mass flywheel need replacing?
I have a Ford Focus TDCi 03-reg which has done 227,000 miles and is still on its first clutch and exhaust. However the clutch pedal is making a grating noise, when depressed when idling. My local garage (whom I trust) have said the dual mass flywheel needs replacing. Being a non-technical person I know nothing about these matters. The garage suggested that I could put a straightforward clutch in, which would be cheaper. I do not however want to compromise the integrity of the car. What would you advise?

Given that your car has done 227,000 miles on the original clutch and you are intending to keep the car, I would suggest that you stay with the dual mass clutch. But if you are going to sell it on and you want to save money, then go for the cheaper option.
