What's the best hatchback with a petrol engine?
I have an Audi A3 diesel (which I have been very happy with) and am looking to replace it with a new car later year. Is the government going to discriminate against diesel engines? Most small five-door hatchbacks seem to offer only diesel in the 2.0-litre range - can you recommend any with a petrol engine?

Unless you will be doing 15,000 miles or more a year it makes no financial sense to buy a diesel five-door hatch because the cost of repairs to things like the DPF outweigh any economy benefit. The VAG 1.4TSI 150 ACT is much nicer to drive than a diesel and should also get you around 45mpg, so no reason not to buy another Audi A3.
