Need a small car with a petrol engine - any recommendations?

I am changing my wife's car. She is 5 foot in height and wants a car with a slightly raised seating. Motoring is mainly local but with occasional trip to Scotland and possibly France.

We do like diesels but lots of short runs probably mean petrol is the choice. Many of the possibles have very small turbo engines which should be fine for local journeys but how are they at 70mph on longer motorway journeys?

Peugeot has just announced the fitting of its 1.2 Puretech 130 with 230Nm torque to the 2008. This is a brilliant small engine. Punchy, good to drive and 50mpg in the 308 so should be the same in the 2008.
