Seized rear differential

I have just taken my 2006 CR-V to my local Honda dealer as it was subject to a recall. They have apparently carried a check of the vehicle at the same time and have advised that the rear differential has "seized" and requires to be drained, heated up and the re-filled which will cure the problem, they also quote £260 for this. Took it to my local garage who very dubious of the statement it has seized and have never heard of having to heat a differential up to "unseized" it. Is my dealer telling the truth?

Yes. Common problem of CR-Vs and always has been because of the type of clutched AWD system they use. The rear diff has a breather and is vulnerable to water ingress which is why it needs to be heated up to dry out the moisture in it. £260 is fair for the job.
