Contract Hire

Re: Unhappy Returns, AC, Elgin 26/12/15
Many years ago I had an MB300TD on contract hire from MB, contact mileage 90k/3 years.
The car was collected, the people ticked all boxes as OK on the collection form, only marked a stone chip on the windscreen.
Subsequently MB sent me a bill for several thousand pounds, to include replaced rims & tyres, virtually a complete respray.
The car IMO was in a condition commensurate with its mileage.
As I had a new lease from an independent, I spoke with them, they advised me that there was a contract Hire association that specified the types of condition & wear with specific mileages, and I obtained their booklet detailing what was to be expected.
I replied to MB accordingly, result all claims cancelled.
PS I'd often thought that all second hand cars sold at MB dealers, seemed to be in virtual brand new showroom condition, no matter what age or mileage, completely different from MB dealers in France.
Now I know why.

I have had a lot of complaints over the years about this issue with MB Finance and consequently advise readers not to take out leases or PCPs with MB Finance if they intend to return the car at the end of the contract.
