DSG gearbox in new Skoda Superb - good idea?
I'm thinking of buying a Skoda Superb and wondering if there is still a problem with the DSG gearbox. I have seen reports that even though new cars have been brought to the Volkswagen plant to be fixed they weren't repaired sufficiently and they breakdown in the end.
Is there also any emissions problems with this cars TDI model?,
I'm also considering Mazda 6, Toyota Avensis and a Ford Mondeo. Which would be a better car for me for executive use?
Regards

I don't trust the 7-speed dry clutch DSG, but the 6-speed wet clutch maintenance box with the bigger engines is much more robust and reliable. Needs fresh fluid and microfilter every three years.
No emissions problem with the EA288 petrol and diesel engines and in fact the EA288 is one of the lowest NOx 2.0 litre diesel engines. It was the old EA189 that had the problem. So a Superb 2. 0TDI 150 DSG will probably be okay. A Mazda 6 has a much better 6 speed transmission and better steering and handling, but is smaller inside. An Avensis is best bought as a 1.8i Valvematic Multidrive S CVT auto. A Mondeo has a Powershift, like the DSG, but not prone to hesitation on start-up.
