Golf GTI infotainment broken
I recently took delivery of a new Golf GTI. After 3 weeks of ownership, the central MMI system failed and I lost use of the radio, sat nav, phone integration and access to some of the car's menus. This issue is apparently common on brand new Golf and Tiguan models across the range.
I rang up my dealer who informed me Volkswagen are aware of the problem and are working on a fix. I've spoken to them again more recently and the fix is still being worked on with no eta on when cars will be recalled to fix the issue.
I find this whole episode quite unacceptable. Why are Volkswagen releasing cars from the factory with known issues with the MMI system? I don't want to become part of the suing culture but where do I stand in asking for some form of compensation? Not having use of the system affects the enjoyment I can get from the car, especially having paid to upgrade the sound system in the car.

This is known on SEAT Leon too, but SEAT dealers already have a software fix. You ask, "Why are Volkswagen releasing cars from the factory with known issues with the MMI system?" The answer is that unlike Range Rover, Volkswagen do not command a level of status and loyalty that leads owners to forgive multiple faults. In the wake of the emissions scandal the company simply cannot allow this sort of thing to continue to happen and everyone at Volkswagen knows it. Some of Volkswagen's dealers might be taking a little longer to catch on.

Our VW Golf Mark 7 infotainment system is completely dead. VW have charged us for diagnostics and say the unit needs to be replaced. They initially quoted £2700 though this has since been reduced to £2300....
