What does the 'Service transmission' warning light mean in a Volvo V50?

I have recently purchased a 2006 Volvo V50 D5 automatic with a high mileage at 118,000. It runs ok but the service transmission light and engine system service light keep coming on. The car runs great on open roads, but judders when setting off in local traffic. I had a diagnostic done and am worried the gearbox might be on its way out. I want to get it sorted before the warranty runs out. Any ideas what the service transmission light actually means?

Have you looked in the handbook to see what it says? Often they're a little vague, but it may give you a clue as to what to do next. Unfortunately we're not experts in specific vehicles so are unable to give you any detailed information, we can only really deal with common faults.
