Small car with big car refinement
I find myself constantly battling to find parking space near work. I have a BMW 4 Series which is a huge leap forward from my Golf. What I'm after is any suggestions on the most refined small car that would be suitable for motorway driving. I'm looking for a smooth ride, It to be quiet and to have large car performance. I don't want a hot hatch just a small car with big car attributes.

That doesn't really happen because though it may be what you want it isn't what the market wants. A Citroen DS3 1.2 Puretech 130 or 1.6 THP 156 is nice and trinkety and has particularly good sight lines for reverse parking. (Actually, it's now a DS3 because in a case of marketing gone mad they've dropped the 'Citroen'). Anything with VWG's 1.4 TSI 150ACT is particularly smooth and punchy (Polo, Ibiza, A1, Golf, Golf SV, A3, Leon.) Peugeot's 208 1.6THP 156 Feline is quite nice. In all cases try to restrict yourself to wheels no bigger than 16" and tyres no lower profile than 55.

I'm looking at pickups and trying to decide between the SsangYong Musso and Ford Ranger. Both tow 3.5 tonnes, which I need. The Musso is obviously cheaper, but I want to know your opinion.
