Vauxhall Meriva electronic parking brake
I parked over night on steep gravel driveway. The front wheels spun and though the electronic brake was switched off as normal for this car the brake refused to release until loads of gravel had been sent flying. I have been parking on this drive for 10 years in cars with normal hand brakes. How can I avoid this problem again?

If the drive is level, simply leave the transmission in 1st or reverse gear and do not apply the parking brake at all. If you forget and put it on and it sticks, rock the car fore and aft in 1st and reverse gear to try to free it.
