Does my Peugeot 807 need a new DPF?
I have a 2-litre 2003 Peugeot 807 LX HD. In March we were driving on a motorway when the engine light came on, and the computer read "anti pollution fault" and the car went into "limp mode". It was still ok to drive, but lacked power until you got up speed, and couldn't rev above 3000rpm. We took it to a local garage who plugged it into the computer, this told them that it was the diesel particulate filter. They told us this would cost approx £500, or that it might just be a computer fault.
So they cleared the fault on the computer, which restored the power, and waited to see if it happened. Everything was fine for two months until May, when it happened again. I was just about to take it back to the garage when, for no obvious reason or intervention, it rectified itself. Then, yesterday it happened for a third time. Please can you advise me on the best option. If this filter really does need replacing, then that's what we will have to do. However, I am concerned, as have read some internet blogs from people saying that they paid all that money and it still didn't correct it? What do you think?

PSA DPFs are partially regenerated by an additive that can last anything up to 10 years before it needs replenishing. The DPF itself can last up to 10 years, or up to around 100,000 miles. So try the fluid first. If you still have a problem, the DPF may be on the way out.
