Buying a new Octavia - which engine is best?

I'm looking at buying a new Skoda Octavia petrol and would welcome your opinion on which engine and gearbox I should choose. It will mainly be used by one driver on a daily commute, but must also be able to cope with the three children and occasional camping trailer\bikes for family holidays.

I am also keen on the idea of getting the seven-speed DSG auto. The plan is to keep the car for seven 7 years will the gearbox last or should I opt for the manual?

Go for the manual. Preferably the 1.4TSI 125 or TSI 150. Based on what has been happening I have absolutely no confidence in a seven-speed dry clutch DSG lasting seven years.
