Buying a new Golf - which trim is best?
I am planning to buy a new VW Golf this year and wanted to ask your advice on the best engine/trim setup.
I do not travel a lot of miles (so do not really need a diesel) and this will be mostly for personal use (I commute by walking) and a little fun so want to have the rear independent suspension and six-speed gearbox. I do not have a family, so do not need a five-door
.
I am planning to go for the 1.4 TSI (122) engine three-door model in Match trim as I like a few toys on a car and do not really want to spend more than £20k (plus the 3-door being tax group C is a bonus). Based on what I have said above, does the 1.4 TSI (122) 3-door Match seem the best choice for my requirements?

I don't think the Match 1.4TSI 122 has independent rear suspension. You need to go to the GT for that, and preferably the 1.4TSI ACT 150. That said, if you're prepared to settle for twist beam ride, the 1.4TSI 125PS is fine. For the money, though, a Peugeot 308 1.2 e-THP 130 Active is a better bet and can discount down to about £16,500.
