Why is my Skoda Fabia blowing white smoke?

I have bought a 2003 Skoda Fabia saloon which has done 130,000 miles. The car is blowing white smoke when starting from cold and smells when running and is sometimes a little hesitant when accelerating

A friend has checked the engine for leaks etc and I have used EGR cleaner but now think it maybe an injector problem. Any ideas?

Well white smoke is indicating that the fuel being injected into the cylinder is not burning correctly (smoke will burn your eyes). However there could quite a few reasons for this. Therefore it would be advisable to have a diagnostic carried out in the first instance, as this may well save time (and money).

Yes it could be the injectors, but may also be the ECT (engine temp sensor) the boost pressure sensor (if fitted), the CKP (crankshaft position sensor).
The fuel pump timing, RPM sensor (if fitted). Hence the need to have a diagnostic first.
