Replacement for Citroen DS3 - what should I buy?

The lease of my Citroen DS3 DSport 1.6 HDi will be up in a few months. Given the average factory lead time, I need to start looking sooner rather than later.

I love the DS3, but my elderly parents struggle to get in and out of it. I am looking for a new five-door hatchback, must have cruise control and it has to be diesel (condition of company car allowance plus a 50 mile per day commute.)

I can go to about £18,000, maybe more depending on what change I get on the PCP on the DS3. Initial thoughts include the BMW 1 Series, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Peugeot 308 and Citroen DS4. Is there anything I have missed out that I should consider?

The 308 Active spec is good, and relatively good value. I'm currently running a petrol 1.2 PureTech 130, which would be my choice. But the 1.6 diesel gets fantastic mpg and is also good to drive. www.honestjohn.co.uk/road-tests/peugeot/peugeot-30.../

A DS4 is pretty awful, with a hard ride and stupidities such as rear widows that don't drop and come to points that stab you in the cheek. BMW 316dED, maybe. Gets under 100g/km, but not much grunt.
