Should I go to court over a parking ticket?

I parked in a car park that had machine that you needed to enter your full registration. I had never used these machines before but I entered my full reg, paid 40p and my ticket was printed. A week or so later I received a parking charge notice, I was being fined for 'maximum limit exceeded' I checked my ticket (luckily I still had it) and I had left four minutes before my time ran out, so I appealed.

The appeal was refused as they said I didn't enter my full reg. Only the last four characters of my reg was printed on the ticket (I didn't realise it would have normally printed my reg in full as I hadn't used the machine before, the sign just said 'enter full registration' which I did).

I know I had entered my full reg so not sure what happened but I do know 10 mins after I had used the machine it wasn't used again and seemed to be out of order. I appealed to POPLA but lost the appeal.

The parking firm has since changed the wording of why I was being fined to 'payment not made in accordance with terms displayed on signage' and they want £100 in 14 days. What should I do?

If you feel sufficiently confident, tell them to take you to court for the payment and in the court claim that the machine went out of order. Also alert them that if you win your case you will sue for your expenses. If you don't feel sufficiently confident (and in particular if you have lost the ticket, which is your only evidence), pay up.
