Old RAV4 with a stuck throttle
I recently had to crash my beloved RAV4 into a steel supporting pillar in a multi-storey car park to avoid pedestrians, when my throttle jammed on and the brakes did not respond coming down one of the slopes.
I was in first gear and the speed was such that airbags were not deployed. However, there was damage to the front of the car and the insurance company wrote it off, so I requested the car back so that it could be assessed for what I believe is a serious fault.
Plus, since the car is almost 15 years old, I have had it from new without incident and it is part of the family, I would like to have it repaired. I wrote to Toyota who took the car to my local dealership and after examining it have had inconclusive results regarding the fault.
I am not convinced and would like to take it further but am not sure how? What would you advise, and is this something that has happened before to Toyota RAVs, that Toyota would rather I didn't know about?

Toyota did have a problem with throttle switches and have issued several worldwide recalls of their cars to correct these. It is half mentioned here, but the details are sketchy: www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/recalls/searches/expand....= In any case, manufacturer responsibility ends after 6 or 7 years which is the design life of the car. If people keep their cars going longer, that is not the manufacturers responsibility.
