Rover 75 making a rattling noise

I recently bought a 2002 Rover 75 diesel auto. After filling the car I noticed a ratting noise and the power steering stopped working. The alternator light has also come on. Can you help?

Reads as if the a/c pump, PAS pump or alternator seized so the aux belt was slipping so you lost PAS and alternator. May merely be that the alternator had a lot of charge to put back into the battery and the belt was a bit slack.
