Will stop/start cause excessive wear to the starter motor?

I own a 2012 Volkswagen Passat with a stop/start system. Can you tell me if this will this result in rapid starter motor wear?

So far, the only problems I have heard of from stop start are from readers complaining that it doesn't work, and that's usually because they have not driven their cars far enough to charge the batteries.
