My Chevrolet Lacetti is suffering from an engine problem - can I return it to the dealer?
I bought a 2006/ 06 plate Chevrolet Lacetti 1600 4 door saloon from a reputable dealer local to myself. It had a genuine mileage of 14,000. Seven days and 250 miles after buying it, a malfunction lamp illuminated on the dash. I returned the car to the garage and collected it four hours later with the fault rectified. Seven days later the lamp came on again and stayed on for about 20 miles while driving on the motorway, and as the first time the car suffered no affect on performance. I reported this to the garage who noted the incident and advised me not to worry, as it was no doubt caused by a sticky sensor after spending a period of time not used on the forecourt. The vehicle had, I was told, run out of fuel and suffered a flat battery while for sale and this was no doubt the cause of the problem.
On Thursday 27 May, the car began to judder whilst driving at a constant speed, almost like the engine was cutting out and then firing back up again. This only happened once the car was warm and only at a constant speed - it would accelerate fine and tick over with no problem. The vehicle, which came with a 3-month warranty, was again returned the the garage, who have given me a loan car. Unfortunately they have been unable to find the fault but willingly admit to the fault being there.
The car was taken to a franchised Chevrolet dealer (the garage I bought the car from is a Proton dealership). As of Friday 11 June, some two weeks since the car was returned to the garage, I am told that Chevrolet still has the car and still can't find the fault. I am now becoming concerned about the situation, and am wondering if I can ask for my money back?
