Buying a used family car for £10k - what's best?

I'm looking to replace my 2008 Citroen C5 Tourer. I do about 15,000 miles per year now and want a medium size, reliable replacement with reasonable performance and economy. I've got about £10,000 to spend.

I was looking at BMW 3 series, Audi A3, Mazda 6, Volvo C30 and S40 and Ford Focus. I've read so many reviews that suggest engine problems particularly with diesels that I'm not sure what the best option might be and whether to go for petrol or diesel.

For 15k miles a year you can still justify a diesel. Most reliable are a KIA cee'd or Hyundai i30 1.6CRDI SW. Bigger, your best bet is a Mondeo 2.0TDCI, not a Skoda Superb.

I have £5000 to spend on a used car. It must have five-doors and space to fit a buggy in the boot. I have been looking at the Mazda 3 (2010 model), are these any good?
