Faulty air con is filling my car with water

The air con on my Renault Scenic started making a grinding noise last week and I noticed passenger well was soaked. I dried the car out and the air con still works, but my local garage suggest the reservoir is full or blocked by debris and have quoted £300+ to fix. Does this sound right to you?

If the moisture caused by the compressor is dripping into the car instead of onto the road then all that has happened is a pipe has come off. But this suggests to me that the drains either side of the bulkhead fresh air vent well are blocked leaving rainwater nowhere to go except via the pollen filter into the cabin of the car. Clear the debris from the tops of the drains and your problem should be solved.
