Would you recommend a 3-door car for our daughter's first car?
We are looking to buy a 3-year-old used car for our 17-year-old daughter who has just started driving lessons. Although we've narrowed our choice between a Toyota Yaris, for reliability, or a Fiat 500, reliable and funky, my wife prefers a 5-door car because she thinks it is safer. Any thoughts please?

There's no logic in that except that it's easier for rear passengers to escape from a 5-door car after a crash. Fiat 500s are exceptionally reliable and the Lounge models have useful features like integrated 'Blue&Me' Bluetooth that can be upgraded online to suit new generations of phones.
